APPLES AND FIZZ
APPLES AND FIZZ
Hello everyone! It’s been a long time since we gave you any news, so here goes… as it’s October (already! how?), the apple harvest is in full swing and the air is fragrant with their sweet smell. Some are made into our own scrummy juice, and a huge amount are taken to Heineken here in heavenly Herefordshire as well as to Aspalls further afield in Suffolk, for them to work their magic and make it into cider.
The big news is… We are also currently harvesting grapes! We have turned 35 acres of land into a vineyard, with three varieties of grape (Seyval Blanc, Madeleine Angevine, and Reichensteiner) that thrive in cooler conditions (which is fortuitous this year). These are made into our White Heron Estate Sparkling Wine, which although only in its second year of production [using the Charmat method] is being very well received. This is a great time for British sparkling wines, a silver lining to the dark cloud that is global climate change. We thoroughly recommend you try it – it’s very good, if we do say so ourselves. Think notes of elderflower, peach and apple and not too fizzy. You can order it from us direct or look out for it in select local suppliers and hostelries. Or better still, visit us here, and try it on one of our White Heron e-bike Tours. More about that next time…
